Relocating to the Oklahoma City Metro
Moving to the OKC metro from out of state, with help choosing the right area before you choose the house.
Choose the area first, then the house
When you move from out of state, the hardest decision usually isn't the house. It's where to live. The Oklahoma City metro is spread out, and the right part of town depends on how you want to live, what you want the property to do, and what you're willing to trade. We help you sort that out first, so you aren't touring houses in places that were never going to fit.
Mark moved to this area 30 years ago, and Kelli is a lifelong Oklahoman who went to college in Edmond and stayed. We also live here and have moved 14 times ourselves, so we know what moving feels like from your side.
Questions only a local can answer
Some of the biggest surprises are local. In this part of Oklahoma, the city on your mailing address, the city your house is actually in, and your school district can all be different. Valencia, for example, is inside Oklahoma City limits, has an Edmond mailing address, and is in Edmond Public Schools. We check the specific address against the actual boundaries before you make an offer. See Edmond and Northwest Oklahoma City for how it plays out in each.
We also help you decide between buying a home that already exists and building. Between us we have more than 40 years in building, lending, and real estate, which is why we can tell you what's behind the walls and what a house will really cost to own.
Agents at both ends of your move
If you are moving here from another city, you may also be selling there. We are part of The Agency, which has offices in other markets and its own relocation department that works with global companies and brokers. We can connect you with an agent where you live now, so someone local helps you sell while we help you buy here.
Start early, and plan the move around the house
You don't need to have the whole plan before you call. The first conversation is how you get one. If you're thinking about building, starting early lets the move follow the construction schedule instead of the other way around. We've helped a buyer relocating from California buy land and build in Edmond, and you can read how that went in new construction. If you want land, acreage and land covers what to check first.
A phone call before your first trip can save you a lot of driving. Talk to Mark and Kelli, or call the team line at 405-593-8326. You can also read more about The Osterman Team.
This page describes our general approach. It isn't legal, tax, or lending advice.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I choose where to live in the Oklahoma City metro?
Start with how you want to live and what you want the property to do, then narrow by area. We help you sort that out before you tour houses.
Does an Edmond address mean Edmond schools?
Not always. Edmond Public Schools reach past the Edmond city limits into Oklahoma City, and Deer Creek Public Schools cover parts of both Edmond and northwest Oklahoma City, so we check the specific address.
Can you help me build instead of buy?
Yes. Mark has 19 years of new construction experience and Kelli has 21, and we've helped out-of-state buyers buy land and build.
When should I contact you?
As early as you like, before your first trip if you can. The first conversation is how you get a plan.
